Vatican
The purpose of this tour is the visit of the Vatican Museums and a large part of the Vatican City, one of the European microstates, situated on the Vatican Hill in the west-central part of Rome, Its borders closely follow the city wall constructed to protect the Pope from outside attack. Leaving the Piazza San Bernardo, adorned by Moses’ Fountain the itinerary will continue passing by Via Bissolati, Via Veneto and the Villa Borghese. After this ample panoramic view, we will visit the Vatican Museums and the Vatican Galleries (lines possible at the entrance). There you will admire the modern entrance built for the Jubilee 2000, the Galleries of the Chandeliers, of the Tapestries and of the Geographical Maps, the Sobiesky Hall and the Immaculate Conception Hall. We will then stop to admire the Sistine Chapel, seat of the Conclave, with the famous frescoes of Michelangelo. Passing inside the Vatican Museums we will arrive into the Basilica of Saint Peter, commonly called Saint Peter's Basilica, is one of four major basilicas of Rome. It is the most prominent building inside the Vatican City and built on the ruins of Old Saint Peter's Basilica. On wednesday, due to the Papal Audience, the church of St. Peter will be visited only from outside.

Rome by night
Sitting comfortably in a de luxe coach, we will follow a charming itinerary, witnessing the ancient origins and the successive cultural and historical stratifications, which characterize the city of Rome. Leaving from Piazza San Bernardo, adorned by Moses’ Fountain, heading to Piazza della Repubblica, we will pass by Via Veneto, Palazzo Margherita, Porta Pinciana, Villa Borghese to arrive at the Trevi Fountain, where we will stop for a visit. We will then continue along Via Quattro Fontane, where you will be amazed by the Fountains of the Four Seasons. From Via Nazionale, descending towards Piazza Venezia, we will see the Memorial to King Vittorio Emanuele II and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The itinerary will also touch the Capitol, the Imperial Forum, the Colosseum, the Palatine Hill, the Aventine Hill, the Circus Maximus and the Tiberina Island. The visit will continue reaching the Gianicolum Hill, to admire one of the most beatiful panoramas of Rome. Finally we will arrive to the Basilica of St. Peter crossing the Tiber and finding by side the imponent fortress of Castel S. Angelo.

TIVOLI AND ITS VILLAS
Going along the motorway we will get to Tivoli, a world-known small town since ancient times for its soothing spring of “Acqua Albulea” (sulphureous baths). Crossing the Ponte Lucano, we will admire the Tomb of Plautius Lucanus before arriving to visit Hadrian’s Villa (from the parking till the entrance a walking distance of 300 meters has to been calculated) built under the homonymous emperor. We will continue our sightseeing with a visit of Villa D’Este, famous for its water system, the architecture of its gardens, the pavilions, the artificial caves and the fountains.

Ostia antica
Ostia antica takes its name from the latin word ostium meaning mouth. Founded as a military base, it became an important commercial port for the supply of grain for Rome. Starting from Porta Romana and proceeding along the main road - Decumanus Maximus - we will visit the old metropolis and Piazzale della Vittoria. Next we will visit the baths of Neptune, one of the public services of the city constructed by Adriano and ornated with fine mosaics. Behind the Bath’s of Neptune, the Firemen’s barrack of the Adrian’s age. The visit will continue with the Theatre erected by Agrippa in the 1st century b.c. From the top of the staircase you have a beautiful view of the excavations. After having visited the House of Diana we will reach the centre of Ostia where we will be able to admire the Forum, the political centre of Ostia, the Temple of Rome and Augustus and the Baths. The excursion will end with a visit of the Basilica: a large aula in the form of rectangle encircled by an arcade, on the right side of which we find the Round temple dating from the 3rd century.

Capri
After leaving Rome and driving along the “Sun Route” motorway, we will cross the regions of Lazio and Campania. From the road you will enjoy the view of the famous Abbey of Montecassino. Arrival at the pier of Naples and embarque to Capri, an island on the south side of the Gulf of Naples, that has been a celebrated beauty spot and resort since the time of the Roman Republic. From the small seaport of Marina Grande we will continue on board of a minibus until Anacapri, little town located high on the hills. After lunch transfer to the town of Capri, where you will have free time at your disposal to go for a walk through the characteristic streets and taste a good coffee in the celebrated “Piazzetta”. At 4.30 pm the group will meet at the pier of Marina Grande to embark back to Naples.

Naples pompei
After leaving Rome and driving along the “Sun Route” motorway, we will cross the regions of Lazio and Campania. From the road you will enjoy the view of the famous Abbey of Montecassino. Once in Naples, there will be a short panoramic tour of the city: the pier of Santa Lucia with its impressive Castel dell’Ovo, the historical centre, Piazza del Plebiscito, the Royal Palace, the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola, the San Carlo Opera House, the Gallery of Umberto I and the imposing Maschio Angioino. We will then continue towards Pompeii where, after a short visit in a coral and cameo factory and lunch in a restaurant, we will visit the excavations of this world-famous Roman town, destroyed by the eruption of the Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Return to Rome.

Florence
After a short panoramic tour of its northern part, we will leave Rome, by the “Sun Route” motorway, crossing the regions Lazio and Umbria, to reach our destination: Florence. City of Etruscan- Roman origins, it flourished in the Middle Ages as a free commune. Furtherly refined by the Renaissance Art and enriched by the Medici rule, Florence is the cradle of Italian language. We will arrive in the heart of the city to visit the Galleria dell’Accademia, where the original David by Michelangelo is kept, together with the Third “Pietà” and the Prisons, also by Michelangelo (for technical reasons this visit could be replaced with a visit of the Opera del Duomo). We will then proceed to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with the magnificent dome projected by Brunelleschi, the Baptistry with the golden bronze doors by Ghiberti and Giotto’s Belfry. From here, we walk to Piazza della Signoria with the Palazzo Vecchio, Florence’s Town Hall, the Loggia dei Lanzi with the Perseus by Cellini and the Fountain of Neptune. After lunch, we will go to Piazza Santa Croce. Free time at disposal to visit the church of Santa Croce (with the graves of Michelangelo, Galileo, Rossini, Machiavelli) or to go into some typical shops, such as the ancient “School of Leather”. Departure for Rome and arrival at 9.00 pm aprox.

Orvieto
After a short panoramic tour of its northern part, we will leave Rome, by the “Sun Route” motorway. Our first stop will be in Orvieto, gorgeous medieval small town, famous for its Cathedral. We will spend the day visiting Umbria, rich in vineyards, olive groves and nice villages on top of the hills. The itinerary is full of charming medieval cities: Spoleto (world-famous for the “Festival dei Due Mondi”), Trevi, Foligno, Spello, and the most celebrated: Assisi, the mystic city of St.Francis. The city, still surrounded by ancient walls, lays on top of the green slopes of Mount Subasio. Its rose-stone buildings, the winding narrow streets, the noble palaces, the balconies full of flowers: everything in Assisi will hold you spellbound. Visit of the church of St.Mary of the Angels and of the Basilica of St. Francis, with the masterpieces of Giotto and Cimabue. It will be a pleasure to wander about, looking into the small artisan shops of the old city. Break for a genuine lunch in a typical restaurant. Return to Rome
